Tape Loom

Tape Looms were an early way to create beautiful ribbons and tapes.  Before the use of zippers, thin bands of fabric tapes were needed for closing shirts, bouses, pants, dresses, skirts and undergarments. Handles for bags, shoelaces, curtain ties... all were decorated with these lovey bands.   Tape looms can be as simple as a flat slotted pine board, or elaborate box looms for table tops or with legs.  I have even seen an ingenious loom crafted into the back of a chair.  The looms create narrow bands from the narrowest string width to about 2 inches.  The bands are usully warp-faced, only the verticle threads show while the welft threads are hidden inbetween the warp threads.

With the use of color and pattern attractive ribbons of cloth can be made for modern use.

A two hour class fee is $12.00 per person. This includes use of a paddle loom and materials to make at least 1 yard of tape.

Optional but not neccessary... The hand-painted looms can be purchased for $64.  The loom comes with 3 skeins of floss, belt, clips, shuttle and instructions.
